After serving in the Foreign Service from 1972 to 1978, Mr. Omoregie joined the United Nations system in1978 as the first Resident Representative of the United Nations Commissioner for Namibia in Botswana. Since then, he has served as Head of Unit for information and assistance in the Office of the Commissioner for Namibia (OCN) (1983-1988);
Representative of the United Nations Commissioner for Namibia in Angola (1988-1990); Head of the Unit for Research and Reports in the same Office and Head of the Task Force for Angola and South Africa (1990-1991);
Secretary of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (1992-1994); United Nations observer during the first multi-party and democratic elections in South Africa (1994);
Secretary of two of the subsidiary organs of the Security Council (1992-1995); Senior Political Affairs Officer in the Security Council Secretariat Branch/Security Council Affairs Division of the Department of Political Affairs (1995-2005);
and member of the UN Task Force on Assistance to the African Union (2003-2005). |
